The Netherlands Society of Anesthesiologists (NVA) represents the specialty of anesthesiology as well as the interests of its members, and aims to project a positive image of the specialty in the Netherlands.
The NVA promotes cost-effective, high quality anesthetic care through stimulation of scientific research, development of appropriate medical technology, implementation of practice guidelines, and a national program of quality audits by visitation.
The NVA assumes responsibility for maintaining an adequate workforce of well-trained anesthesiologists through regular assessments of demand for anesthesiology services and capacity planning. It is also responsible for developing and carrying out a modern, well-structured training program including postgraduate courses aimed at the clinical situation.
The NVA maintains contacts with politicians, the government, patient associations, umbrella organizations, scientific associations, foreign sister associations and other relevant parties to safeguard the social position of the anesthesiologist and the position of anesthesiology within the health service.

Vision

The NVA propagates that anesthesiology is a medical specialty which should be practiced by anesthesiologists.
The NVA aims at a transparent structure for the association with the policy forming committees being representative of the practicing members, and in which sufficient cross connections exist between sections, commissions and the board.
The NVA aims to be the leading force in the development of the training program for anesthesiology residents, postgraduate training for practicing anesthesiologists, total quality management; in addition, it facilitates scientific investigation in anesthesiology.
